The impulse, a package of Hershey bars. Okay, so there wasn't zero thought involved, but it was still impulsive. In a split second, I decided it would make a super fun Family Home Evening activity/treat and it did. We spent our dinner time talking to the kids about fasting - what it means to fast, why we fast, what fast offerings are and what they are used for, told them about when Jesus fasted for 40 days, and we also talked a little bit about testimony's.
It was a really good discussion that I think the kids learned from ... then we pulled out the nifty smore's maker GR got for Father's Day a couple years ago, along with the marshmallows, the graham crackers and the newly purchased chocolate bars, only to discover that we were out of Bunsen burners/chafing fuel. So we improvised and made them in the microwave. Not my favorite method, and not nearly as much fun as toasting marshmallows indoors over a little chafing flame, but they were still yummy and made everyones face chocolaty! yummy!
