A must see - In person
The kids and I spent most of Wednesday in Independence, MO, which I hope to tell you all about in an upcoming post.
After our adventures in historic downtown Independence, I decided we should swing past the LDS visitors center ... drinking fountains, clean bathrooms, nice people, good teaching opportunity with the kids... before heading for home. I'm not exactly sure how I forgot that they are remodeling all the church visitor centers in the area ... hence the huge influx of sister missionaries in our stake... heck the sister missionaries in our own ward!
But I digress, the trip was not a total loss, I, for the very first time, saw in person, The Church of Christ's (RLDS) "The Temple." Honestly, pictures do not do justice to this structure. It is a structure you simply have to see in person. It's huge, odd, beautiful, amazing, and so much more. So we gazed/stared from across the street and then headed home.

Sam I Am
A couple quick little tid bits about Sam this week:
1. He's started saying three word sentences... They are so cute! It's still way hard to understand him, dang he's cute!! Yesterday he went outside and two of the neighborhood boys were playing baseball. He picked up a bat, and beaming at me said, "Mama, play baseball!" And to here him say 'Raspberry Juice" is endearing. We are still trying to get the camcorder fixed. I think we're simply going to have to mail it to Cannon, because I must have video of this kid talking!
2. Poop! It's one of his favorite words. He's starting to recognize the sensation of needing to go and having gone to the bathroom. Amazingly we have actually had a number of successful poop sessions on the potty. Since pee happens a little faster we have not be successful there, but poop, we've had three good successes in that department.
I should explain, that Sam's doing this all on his own... well I'm putting him on the toilet, but when he shouts "Poop!," I ask if he wants to sit on the potty, and if he says yes (and he usually does) than I put him on. He sits for a few minutes (more often than not, he doesn't do anything), and then we put a diaper back on. If something does happen than we shout 'hurray!' and he gets to flush the toilet - if you don't poop or pee in the potty, than you don't get to flush, cause that's the fun part!
I really don't expect him to actually be potty trained for another year or so, but ya never know, he may decide to do it sooner. It's just been fun to watch him go through this discovery process.
3. Cut! His other favorite word. Sam loves scissors, and actually does a remarkable job using them. Consequently, he LOVES to cut. My house is covered in little pieces of paper... it's like confetti. For the most part he's stuck to paper (computer paper, junk mail, catelogs, etc.), but today he started in on books. Most parents worry about their children drawing with crayon in books, or maybe tearing a page or two, not me... I worry about finding all the little pieces of the paperbacks cover he's cut so I can tape it all back together. My own little jigsaw puzzle. The girls and I are trying to help Sam remember that the scissors don't leave the table... sigh, that may take a while.

Best Buddy Bags
A month ago Rebecca begged and begged to make these "Best Buddy Bags" she'd seen on Playhouse Disney's Project Playtime. On a slow Tuesday morning, I pulled out all the materials to make them. These have been the best project we've done all summer!
Whenever we leave the house they insist on filling the best buddy bags with snacks and taking it with them. This has necessitated the purchase of snacks that travel easily. Snacks we've taken -- peanut butter sandwich crackers, teddy grams, fruit snacks, string cheese, bananas, apples, juice boxes, PBJs, etc.
So these little snack bags have gone to the hospital, zoo, swimming pool, park, playgroup, store, museums, etc. Unfortunately they are starting to show the intense love the kids have for them. Honestly they remind me of the lunch sacks Daddy uses for a month at a time.
We're going to have to find a different animal to make for the July 'Best Buddy Bags' since I doubt these will last much longer.

They finally put the second coat of paint on the front door. I have yet to get the picture to truly capture the color, and I've checked Benjamin Moore's website and can't find an online color chip to show you. Anyway hope this helps you visualize what everything looks like.

Done.... atleast for another month
I had my third and final speaking assignment today at a rural branch conference - 1.5 hours away, meaning we had to pull out of town at 7am - wow is that early!
I think it went well... I broke tradition and typed it all out word for word, and consequently I pretty much read it word for word. Not my preferred method, but I wanted to make sure I kept to my 15 minutes and left enough time for the others on the program. As it stands I probably could have taken up another 5 minutes ... Oh well, I don't have that assignment again until October.
Because of time, I cut out all my discussion questions. I think when I do it again, I will turn it into more of a discussion where I pull the audience into the topic and allow them to teach one another. It's more engaging and in some ways more thought provoking because there is more pondering time, instead of having someone fling a bunch of thoughts at you.
