Despite rain daily from Tuesday-Friday morning, (with lots on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday afternoon) we had surprisingly good luck timing our trips to the beach!
The adults kept themselves occupied on the beach with building sandcastles. Everyone participated and the idea was to see how deep the mote could be, and how well it could be fortified against the incoming water. It was always fun to go back and see how the castle faired during the night and to see who claimed it the next day and how they changed it.
On Thursday we met some delightful women from IN (left) and MO (right) all because of their unique sandcastle, and three teenage boys who's use of a shovel on the beach instantly caught our attention on Thursday when we got to the beach. The boys had dug WW2 style bunkers in the sand and were hurling sandballs at each other and then diving down into their trench before getting pummeled by the opposing side's own arsenal of sandballs. Their Mom (red head from MO) and her friend were 10 feet or so away, "trying to keep just far enough away that no one would suspect the boys belonged to them," making the sandcastle below. The technique uses a bucket of water with sand. You take a handful of very wet sand and dribble it in layers and pilers building towers and turrets that make a stunning sandcastle.
A complete family picture taken Wednesday in the rain minutes before Mary Ann and family had to leave ... we set up the camera under the beach umbrella on the front lawn and used the self timer. What a site that must have been for the neighbors!

i've had fun catching up on your awesome vacation....looks like a blast! and thank you SO much for those books on cd! i was coveting those very ones at wendy's! they were truly a lifesaver. keep in touch, friend.
