GR got a new cell phone at work, it's a joke of a phone. Cerner had tons of potential in the kind of phone they could have purchased, instead, they went with something "close, but not close enough."
Sam loves cell phones. Specifically my cell phone. He will dig through my purse looking for it and then carry it around with him. Since Nextel has a key lock option on their phones, I don't think twice about letting Sam hold my phone while in the car or in a shopping cart. So in our house, a key lock option is an essential feature of a cell phone.
When GR went looking through the "A Guide to Activating and Using Your Phone" that came with his phone to find out how to lock the phones key pad, he found the following statement:
Restricting Children's Access to Your Phone
Your phone is not a toy. Do not allow children to play with it as they could hurt themselves and others, damage the phone or make calls that increase your Sprint PCS Invoice.
This is just wrong in so many ways.
By the way:
The phone seems to have taken care of the "key lock" issue on it's own. It currently locks up when ever GR's turns it on, to unlock it he has to take the battery pack out repeatedly until it decides to allow him access.

Stella is similarly fond of cellphones. When she isn't conducting fascinating conversations, she sometimes tries to take a bite when we aren't looking. So, I think any kid-safe cellphone should involve lots of waterproofing.
When Merryn has a friend over, we have to hide all of "her" phones--including an old cordless we let her play with--because she will not share them. She becomes frantic if another child tries to take one of her phones. What is it about these things?
Matthew - last weekend Sam had my phone for much of the day. Late afternoon he handed it to me and I was convinced it was gone for good. All it would do is vibrate and buzz, nothing we did could stop it, unless of course we took out he battary. GR transfered the sim card into his phone body and thinges worked fine. On his last business trip he needed to take his phone, so he swapped out sim cards again... my phone now works fine. We assume Sam got it wet somehow and it just needed some time to dry out.
Elspeth - GR called Wednesday night during dinner. Sam had the Sprint/Cerner 'toy of a phone' with him at the table. While I was talking to GR, he flipped open 'his phone' and started jabbering, then closed it up and went back to eating his dinner! I guess they want to be like the big people.
